But things are a bit different in Norway thanks to the iconic band Knutsen &#038; Ludvigsen. Active between the \u201870s and \u201880s, the duo, consisting of \u00d8ystein Dolmen (&#8216;Knutsen&#8217;) and Gustav Lorentzen (&#8216;Ludvigsen&#8217;), produced a string of hugely successful children\u2019s songs and have become a cool, cult Norwegian icon among the hip, young demographics. Their album <span class=\"quotation\">Juba Juba<\/span> from 1983 is a Norwegian classic of all time and was voted as the fifth best Norwegian album in 2011 by <span class=\"norskord\">Morgenbladet<\/span>. <span class=\"quotation\">Dum og Deilig<\/span>, one of their biggest hits, typifies the classic sound of Knutsen &#038; Ludvigsen with its obscure sense of humour and quirky musical tropes.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"945\" height=\"532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Gn5lVn0uT-U?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>As a children\u2019s album,  <span class=\"quotation\">Bydyra<\/span>  might not achieve as high as <span class=\"quotation\">Juba Juba<\/span> did, but this collection of humourous, occult children music crafted with proggy and folky musical elements comes pretty close and somehow follows Knutsen &#038; Ludvigsen&#8217;s legacy. The whole album reflects what is happening in Oslo &#8211; or most other big cities in the rest of the world &#8211; in a surreally metaphorical way, in the light of rapid urban development. Making a children&#8217;s album is a natural step for Tusm\u00f8rke, considering that there is always a hint of almost childish character and unpretentious humour in their music and they have sampled classic Norwegian children&#8217;s music before(<span class=\"quotation\">Hjems\u00f8kte Hjem<\/span>). Watch the video for <span class=\"quotation\">L\u00e6r de fattige \u00e5 trylle <\/span> (&#8220;Teach magic to the poor&#8221;), which is a satirical political song about the hopeless situation of the poor in Oslo.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"945\" height=\"532\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/CFASvsogk4s?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-GB&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation allow-popups-to-escape-sandbox\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>In May Tusm\u00f8rke are going to release a new album called <span class=\"quotation\">Fjernsyn i Farver<\/span>. It\u2019s not a children\u2019s album this time, but one of the tracks titled <span class=\"quotation\">T\u00f8yens Hemmelighet<\/span> seems like to be a continuation of <span class=\"quotation\">Bydyra<\/span> and their other songs that carry a political undertone. Tusm\u00f8rke have told us that the song is \u201ddedicated to three powerful plants in the Botanical Gardens of Oslo. They have become a prolific band since the release of <span class=\"quotation\">Underjordisk Tusm\u00f8rke<\/span> in 2012. They released two albums: Hinsides under the Finnish label Svart Records and <span class=\"quotation\">Bydyra<\/span> under the Norwegian label Karisma Records in  the same year of 2017. After receiving critical acclaim for their children\u2019s album  <span class=\"quotation\">Bydyra<\/span>, they are following up the success with a new album  <span class=\"quotation\">Fjernsyn i Farver<\/span> in May this year.<\/p>\n<p>Taking inspiration from traditional folk music, Tusm\u00f8rke likes to write about mythical matters and ancient times content-wise, ranging from the Black Death to the bronze age. Their critical album <span class=\"quotation\">Bydyra<\/span> took a step further, making an album with children for both children and adults, singing about the adventures of migrant animals that were forced to move to the city from their tree house in nature. This is an allegorical tale of the bizarre world we are currently living in, infused with playful proggy and folky music elements making you smile and wiggle your body.
